Here is the view from a beautiful madrone-covered bluff on Stuart Island called Lover's Leap. It overlooks Haro Strait with views out to the Olympic Mountains and Canada's Vancouver Island. As you pan to the right, you can see one of the old lighthouse buildings on the lower shore. We watched dall porpoise, seals, an eagle, and boats from this spot, soaking it all in. To get here, we walked the length of the single road that traverses Stuart Island, passing the small school house, some of the island community's off-the-grid homes, an airstrip, and a rusted car wrecked in the woods. The road goes from a boat ramp at Stuart Island State Park and ends at the now-automated lighthouse.
