relaxing with the view and ambiance at the Deer Harbor marina on Orcas Island.
We stayed in a B&B just up the road, and we walked down here in the evening
with the locals for a pre-4th of July fireworks show that was launched from a
barge behind the boats.

at the helm as we navigated through some of the 175 islands that are scattered
throughout the San Juan Islands. Lots of seals, eagles, and submerged rocks to
look out for! We started on Orcas and wandered westerly towards Waldron, Spieden,
and San Juan Islands, with mini-explorations around some of the local smaller
islands, too.

at the Doe Bay cabin on Orcas Island where we stayed overnight. Doe Bay goes back
a century, and has seen lots of changes over the years. It now attracts a funky
collection of people: mostly a cross between it's hippy/spritualist/naturalist
ethic that started in the '60s and a curious mix of Seattlites looking for a peaceful
retreat. They have a very good natural foods cafe, and the nude natural hot springs
are worth a dip, too!
