After
a walk along the Seattle waterfront, Jerry and I chowed at Ivar's. Since the sea
gulls have done extensive training of humans over the years, Jerry fell prey to
their method of having someone present perfectly fine french fries for their eating
enjoyment. Amazingly, Jerry's leather jacket came away clean and unsullied.

Justin,
Scott, Jerry The Inebriated FaceMaker, and Ken at Tini Bigs martini bar, with
Kathy doing the pic snapping. Tini Bigs has quite the assortment of martinis,
and is a good place for any martini fan that wants some good variety. The black
triangular thing that I'm looking through started out as a logic puzzle concocted
by Jerry, and ended up as a melted and twisted representation of modern art, made
from plastic straws and lots of lit matches. By the way, melted plastic stinks.

Scott
walking across a steep snow embankment on the way up Hurricane Ridge in the Olympic
Mountains with Jerry. Fortunately, there were a few older walking tracks to use;
the ice surface had crusted over and we didn't have crampons. A step to the side
would have meant a long and fast slide ride to the bottom, or until a tree trunk,
whichever came first!

Scott
and Jerry trying valiantly to stay balanced on a rock while the camera's timer
goes off. We're kind of in mid-tumble at this point. This is on the tippy top
of Hurricane Ridge, with the Olympic Mountains in the background. Beautiful spot
up there...

Jerry
checking out the wet heat at one of the Olympic Hot Springs. The chanting hugging
hippies and the naked guys in the various pools kind of discombobulated his world
a little, but he quickly recovered and dipped his hands into the soothing (though
sulfur smelling) mineral baths. We'll make him a crunchy granola yet! From here,
we headed out to Cape Flattery and Neah Bay on the Makah Indian Reservation.

Jerry
is sitting on the remains of a nurse tree in the Hoh Rain Forest. Nurse trees
are dead trees that create a fresh sprouting area by clearing a path for sunlight
when it falls, and by acting as a source of compost nourishment for new trees
to grow on as the fallen tree decays. The trees to Jerry's left and right are
lined up in a row with roots a few feet off the ground because they originally
grew on top of such a nurse tree, which is now long gone. Uncharacteristically,
it was a bright clear-sky day at Hoh!

Jerry
surfing the waves of driftwood in the cool winds of South Beach on the Pacific
Ocean. Great beachcombing, sand walking, and rock skipping opportunities all over
the place there!
